This style involves dividing the space into different zones, such as a craft room, laundry room, and man cave. The Crews Needed For a Basement Finishing Project

Depending on the scope of your basement project, it can require multiple contractors with various expertise. At MI Remodelers, we understand that a finished basement requires specialized skills, and we have the crews to complete your renovation successfully.

The Ten Crews Needed For Creating A Finished Basement

  1. Foundation
  2. Carpentry
  3. Plumbing
  4. Electrical
  5. HVAC
  6. Insulation
  7. Drywall
  8. Tile
  9. Flooring
  10. Painting

Most general contractors can help you with some of this work, but many need help to handle every aspect. One company may be able to quote you on securing the foundation walls, drywall, painting, and flooring, but they need access to electrical or HVAC crews.

With MI Remodelers, you have one point of contact for the entire basement remodeling project, no matter how complex or how many crews are involved. Our project managers will ensure that all aspects of the finished basement are completed professionally and on time and that the building inspector passes all work.

Finished Basement Framing & Carpentry

Basement Walls/Foundation

Foundation crews are typically required to repair or reinforce an existing foundation or add a new one to support additional structural changes. For example, one common project that may require a foundation crew is installing a new foundation wall, which involves excavating the basement floor, pouring concrete, and reinforcing it with steel rebar. Repairing existing foundation walls may require a crew to assess the foundation, fix cracks, support weakened areas, or add additional supports. They may also bring natural light into the home's lower level by adding egress windows into the existing foundation wall.

Basement Carpentry

When finishing a basement, carpenters are responsible for constructing the framework for the walls, partition walls, floors, and ceilings on the finished basement. In addition, carpenters would install a new staircase, doors, and windows and can build custom cabinets and shelves for storage solutions. They also install baseboards, crown molding, and other decorative trim work to give the space a polished and finished look. Overall, carpenters are critical in finishing and transforming a basement into a functional, attractive living space.

Basement Plumbing

A plumbing crew is needed for many basement projects, including installing a new kitchen or bathroom and relocating laundry rooms. Other tasks that require a plumbing crew include the installation of a sump pump to prevent water damage and flooding or reconfiguring the existing plumbing layout. In addition, plumbing crews are generally responsible for ensuring the plumbing installation in the finished basement is safe, functional, and compliant with building codes.

Basement Electrical

Electrical crews are responsible for installing and connecting all electrical components necessary to power the finished basement, including wiring, outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures. They can also install sound systems and other entertainment devices. Electrical crews also ensure the renovation is safe by installing smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and other safety features. The right electrical team can help you save money long-term with energy-efficient planning.

Basement HVAC

An HVAC crew is typically required for any basement projects that involve installing or modifying the HVAC system. This includes installing new ductwork, adding additional vents or registers, or upgrading the heating and cooling equipment to ensure the basement is adequately heated and cooled. HVAC crews may also be responsible for repairing or replacing any existing equipment or ductwork in the basement to ensure that it functions appropriately and efficiently to create a habitable space.

Basement Insulation

An insulation crew is necessary to convert an unfinished basement into a comfortable and energy-efficient living space. These crews would install various materials, such as fiberglass batts, spray foam, or rigid foam boards, in the walls, ceiling, floor joists, and other basement areas as needed. Any remodel will likely require the expertise of a crew familiar with all types of insulant and knows how to avoid moisture problems to ensure the space is comfortable.

Basement Drywall

Several basement projects may require a drywall crew, such as finishing the basement ceiling or creating new walls to divide the space into separate rooms, like a basement bedroom or home office. Drywall crews are responsible for installing wall panels, taping and mudding the seams, and sanding them down to create a smooth and seamless finish. In general, any renovation that involves building or removing walls and ceilings will likely require the expertise of a drywall crew to ensure a professional and polished finish.

Basement Tile

A typical renovation requiring a tile crew is installing a new bathroom with tiles on the floors, basement walls, and shower or tub surrounds. They may also install tiles on the floor to create a durable and easy-to-clean surface. Additionally, if the homeowner wishes to create a wet bar or a kitchenette, a tile crew will install tiles on the countertop or backsplash. Tile crews may also be necessary if the homeowner wants to create a decorative accent wall or a fireplace surround using tiles.

Basement Flooring

Several basement finishing projects require a flooring crew, such as installing a subfloor, moisture protection, and a level surface, installing various types of finished flooring such as hardwood, carpet, vinyl, or tile, and finishing the floor by sanding, staining, or sealing the hardwood floors or grouting and sealing the tile. The expertise of a flooring crew is essential in making a comfortable and functional area by providing a durable, attractive, and safe flooring solution that meets the homeowner's needs and design preferences.

Basement Painting

Most finishing projects require a painting crew to handle things like painting the walls, basement ceiling and trim to give the space a new, clean look. Additionally, a painting crew may be needed to apply special coatings to the basement walls or floor to provide additional protection against moisture or create a decorative finish, such as a faux or textured finish. A painting crew can also help with color selection and guide the best types of paint or coatings to use in a basement environment.

Customer Reviews from google
Gary and team did a great job on our exterior remodel! We had cedar shake siding that was stained and wearing badly. Mi remodelers was really patient with us while we decided whether we wanted to restain or try to power wash it natural and just seal. Thankfully we were able to go natural with it and love how it turned out!! They also replaced our garage door and did a ton of trim painting. It all looks so good together! We would definitely use them for future projects 😊

Our son in law recommended them to install gutters. Very glad we went with them! They came out quickly for an estimate. They were very reasonable and use quality materials. Soon after the estimate an appointment was scheduled to install the gutters. They showed up on time and were in and out in a matter of hours and did a quality job!!

Customer Reviews from google
Greatly appreciate MI Remodelers for garage and driveway, new drainage, and garage and porch brick repair. Very professional management and team. The job is formed and ready to pour. The financing has been easy. Ken (the expert with 37 years in the business) and Gary (the owner) have been onsite every step of the way. Gary has been hands on, responsive, and outstanding to work with. The onsite team of 5 hard and professional workers was refreshing. We had some unexpected surprises while clearing the old driveway, and no changes to contract. Not only do I appreciate Gary, during the excavation, he noted several opportunities for improvement that I took advantage of. Yeah, for a cost, but I really appreciate the guidance and suggestions and opportunity to take advantage of a larger driveway width that made more sense. Nice job. I figure that I will update this after the concrete is poured, and again after a month since I highly recommend this company. And personally, very rare that I find such gems these days.

Gary and his team did a complete transformation on our front porch. Their professionalism on a day to day basis met all of our expectations! Great Company!
@Shelley Wright
Customer Reviews from Yelp
We had MI remodelers out to replace our front steps and install a patio. Gary and the team were so easy to work with! We're a younger couple and weren't exactly sure what we wanted but they gave us lots of options and talked about which ones would be best. We had a couple of quotes done and we liked them the best because they were super punctual, a fair price, and really easy to get a hold of. Every time we contacted them we heard back from someone within a half our. The patio looks wonderful! Also while they were out, they noticed one of our gutters was falling so they quoted us a price to fix that took. The gutter looks amazing! Almost wish we would've replaced more (another project for another day). We defiantly plan on having MI remodelers come out to do more projects.
